When it’s time to pass a state’s annual budget, the governor, heads of the state Assembly and Senate join together in a room. For the first time in New York history, there’s a female governor and female Senate Majority Leader.

Times are changing and Hochul was sure to address it in her first annual state policy address on Wednesday.

Hochul also said her policy priorities, which she will have to turn into action through a budget due in the coming weeks, wouldn’t just focus on what the state would tax and spend on, but rather how to more equitably distribute the state’s $212 billion budget.
