In the wake of the horrific tragedy that took place at a queer club in Colorado Springs late Saturday night, taking the lives of at least 5 people and injuring 25, people from all over the world are sending thoughtful messages of support to the victims and their families.

See just a small snapshot of what celebrities and politicians had to say to the victims at Club Q and the LGBTQ community at large in the days following the attack:

Cameron took her support one step further and dedicated her American Music Award to the LGBTQ community, live on national television. In her acceptance speech, she thanks the queer community for providing her a safe space and states “On the heels of the tragedy that happened at ClubQ in Colorado Springs, I want to remind everyone how important queer visibility is and how important our community is.”

Other celebrities who took to social media to express their solidarity include Billy Porter, Kyle Richards, Hilarie Burton Morgan, and Jeffrey Wright to name a few.

The ongoing violence against the LGBTQ community can be directly traced back to the false and hateful rhetoric spreading rampantly by extremists on social media, resulting in over 300 anti-LGBTQ bills being introduced in the past year. Speaking up on behalf of the community and urging elected officials to prioritize safety is how we can create real change.
