1) Out actor, producer, and activist Elliot Page has signed on as an executive producer of Nel Mio Nome (Into My Name), a transgender-themed documentary from Italian director Nicolò Bassetti, which will premiere at the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival next month. The documentary follows a group of four friends— Nico, Leo, Andrea, and Raff— as they transition at different times in their lives. Bassetti’s film is rooted in his personal experience with the gender transition of his own son, Matteo.

2) Paramount+ has announced the renewal of Star Trek: Discovery for a fifth season. The Emmy Award-Winning program has featured the first openly gay couple in a Star Trek series, Paul Stamets (out actor Anthony Rapp) and Hugh Culber (out actor Wilson Cruz); the first non-binary character, Adira Tal (Blu Del Barrio); the first trangender character, Gray Tal (out actor Ian Alexander); as well as lesbian character Jett Reno (out actor Tig Notaro). Season four of Star Trek: Discovery will return with new episodes on February 10!

3) Netflix has released new photos from the upcoming second season of the hit Regency England drama Bridgerton ahead of its March 25 debut. The images include Season 2 romantic protagonists Anthony (out actor Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) at a ball, as well as lesbian actress and singer Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charollete, engaging in her favorite past time — reading the latest Lady Whistledown gossip.
4) Out The White Lotus star Murray Bartlett has been added to the cast of Hulu’s upcoming limited series Immigrant. Bartlett has joined the show as a series regular, playing producer and choreographer Nick De Noia, described by the streamer as a “charming, fast-talking New Yorker whose certain he’s God’s gift to entertainment… A man of many passions, Nick loves drinking, drugs, women, men— and most of all, show biz.” Immigrant, which is the show’s working title, follows the story of Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), the Indian-American entrepreneur who started the famed troop.
5) Peacock has renewed a second season of One of Us is Lying, a drama series based on the YA novel of the same name by Karen M. McManus. In season one, five high school students— Simon, Addy, Cooper, Bronwyn, and Nate— walk into detention and only four make it out alive. The cast includes gay athlete Cooper (Chibuikem Uche), his boyfriend Kris (Karim Diane), and the victim’s queer best friend Janae (Jessica McLeod). Season two will deviate from McManus’ sequel novel, One of Us Is Next, and will pick up right after the events of the season one finale.

6) The CW has announced new cast members for Season 2 of Kung Fu, a reboot of the classic series, adding Vanessa Yao, Annie Q. and JB Tadena. Tadena will play Sebastian, Harmony Dumplings’ talented and charming new chef who immediately turns the newly single Ryan’s (Jon Prasida) head. While the will-they-won’t-they suspense kills Ryan— and fuels the teasing of his siblings— Sebastian will find himself a bigger and bigger part of the Shen’s lives.
7) Bravo has renewed Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen through 2023, which will mark the show’s 15th year on air. Hosted and executive produced by out radio and television talk show host, writer, and producer Andy Cohen, the late-night talk show offers fans the opportunity to interact with their favorite celebrities in real time, inviting them to call in to ask questions or weigh in via live polls.

8) Out drag queen, singer-songwriter, actor, and activist Honey Davenport (James Heath-Clark) has released their new EP Love is God, featuring out drag queens Kevin Aviance, Manila Luzon, Tammie Brown, Lala Ri, and Jackie Cox. 9) Out songwriter, producer, filmmaker, and award-winning activist Logan Lynn has released his tenth LP entitled New Money, as well as an official music video for the track” Is There Anyone Else Like This In The World?”. 10) The award-winning LGBTQ micro-series Hidden Canyons has released a trailer for Season 2, set to premiere on January 28, 2022. The 1-minute soap opera follows strangers’ lives in streamy and fast episodes which end on wild cliffhangers. The series is written, produced, and directed by out actor and producer Brant Rotnem, and co-directed by queer actor, writer, and producer Fawzia Mirza. 11) The nominees have been announced for the 53rd NAACP Image Awards, including numerous queer performers and media. Out singer and rapper Lil Nas X lead the recording nominees with “Entertainer of the Year”, “Outstanding Male Artist” and “Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap Song” nominations. Among the nominees in the motion picture category is out actress Tessa Thompson (“Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture” for Passing), out actress, singer, and dancer Ariana DeBose (“Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture” for West Side Story), and the documentary film Flee (“Outstanding International Motion Picture”). Further out nominees in television and other categories include, Billy Porter (“Outstanding Actor in Drama Series” for Pose, “Outstanding Voice Over Performance” for Fairfax, and “Outstanding Literary Work-Biography/Autobiography” for Unprotected a Memoir), Wanda Sykes (“Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series”), Issa Rae (“Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series”), Rutina Wesley (“Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series), Our Lady J and Janet Mock(”Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series” for the Pose Series Finale).
