New Yorkers who are planning to visit the new hometown of former President Donald Trump were told to leave if they are “woke.”

According to the Associated Press, police in Palm Beach, Florida, say someone posted the flyers on New York licensed cars in the area. The flyers said, “If you are one of those ‘woke’ people—leave Florida. You will be happier elsewhere, as we will.”

Some residents became concerned by the flyers, noting a lack of respect for those with differing opinions and how the nature of the message could be viewed as threatening, The Palm Beach Post reported. “We understand that the lack of civility and respect for personal property displayed by this is concerning,” Palm Beach Police Captain Will Rothrock said.

Trump became a resident of Palm Beach in 2019 after moving from New York City, the AP reported. After leaving the White House, the former Republican President moved to the Mar-a-Lago resort, but some residents objected due to rules that state club members cannot stay longer than seven consecutive nights or 21 days per year, according to Forbes. In May 2021, town officials said they would not block the former President from living in the club.

Some conservative Republicans have used the term woke, made famous by the Black Lives Matter movement after Michael Brown was fatally shot by police in 2014, as an insult against liberals. In Sep. 2021, in an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “Being woke means you are a loser.”
