Small business group applauds President Biden’s commitment to economic growth through Bidenomics

Statement by Small Business for America’s Future Co-chair Shaundell Newsome on President Biden’s visit to Largo, Maryland

Sept. 14, 2023 –I was pleased to hear President Biden today talk about an economic approach that will continue to help Main Street small businesses grow and succeed. Our economy is showing signs of resilience with a strong hiring market and record low unemployment. This is no time to pursue extreme economic policies that could shut down the federal government or derail our progress.

According to a new Small Business for America’s Future survey, nearly 60% of small business owners are optimistic about the direction of the economy but feel that it could be shattered during the current budget negotiations where some in Congress are threatening a government shutdown. Seventy-eight percent of respondents said they believe a shutdown would negatively impact the economy and small businesses.

Instead of prolonged debate over the budget, lawmakers should focus on passing common sense legislation that helps small business owners and their families like the Inflation Reduction Act. It addresses high healthcare, a major concern of small business owners and stands as a testament to policies tailored to support our growth and stability. This approach resonates deeply with small business owners like myself, who are the backbone of our communities.

The federal economic policies and initiatives of the last few years are working to create an environment where businesses like mine can thrive, providing opportunities for both growth and stability. We need to continue this commitment to inclusive and equitable growth, prioritizing investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

As a small business owner, I appreciate the forward-thinking strategies that are being implemented to support entrepreneurs and local businesses. The emphasis on innovation, clean energy, and workforce development aligns perfectly with the needs of many small businesses.
