Shoppers did not spread the wealth evenly this past holiday season. Spending at Shein, one of fashion’s fast growing brands, skyrocketed 103 percent year-over-year.

“The spend reflects their crazy lead in fast fashion,” said Zachary Amsel, director of data analytics at Earnest Research, which compiled holiday spending data from millions of credit card transactions in the US from November 1 through December 29.

Another notable winner of the holiday season was On Running, the popular Swiss sneaker startup, as well as fashion resale marketplace StockX, where spend jumped 28 percent since last year.

Meanwhile, shopping at beauty brand Glossier declined this year, with spending decreasing 22 percent from 2020. Spend at luggage maker Away climbed 79 percent compared to 2020 but Away’s sales have not recovered to pre-pandemic levels yet.
