Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) Queer rugby drama In From the Side is out in theaters today! The film follows two rugby players as they end up in an adulterous affair after a drunken night out. At the same time, their divided gay rugby club is struggling to stay afloat, and in order to save the club, the pair must hide their ever-growing feelings. You’re not going to want to miss this hunky gay drama, so get your tickets to see In From the Side now!
2.) Alone at Night, a new horror feature starring queer actress Ashley Benson, is out in theaters now! After a bad breakup, Vicky (Ashley Benson), retreats to a remote cabin in the woods and continues working as a camgirl on an adults-only website. However, she quickly realizes she’s not alone as a masked killer begins to stalk and torment her. Get your tickets to Alone at Night, in theaters now!
3.) The trailer for Scream VI dropped this week, and Ghostface is on a rampage through the streets of New York City! The film takes place after the survivors from the last movie, including lesbian character Mindy Meeks-Martin, move from Woodsboro, CA to New York City for a fresh start. However, not long after they are targeted by a new masked killer, and possibly the most dangerous one yet. How will the gang defend themselves in one of the busiest cities in the world, famed for the fact that it never sleeps? Find out on March 10, when Scream VI hits theaters!
4.) The trailer for season two of the popular Showtime drama Yellowjackets was released this week, giving a first look at where the group of plane crash survivors are now. The show follows a women’s soccer team that survive a plane crash in 1996 and their struggles to stay alive in the woods, as well as their present day lives after their 19 month stint in the wilderness. The show also features a number of queer characters, including Taissa, Ben, Van, and Simone. Don’t miss season two of Yellowjackets, premiering on Showtime on March 24.
5.) The trailer for The CW’s sports drama All American: Homecoming’s second half of its second season dropped this week! The show follows a group of athletes at Bringston University, an HBCU (historically Black college/university), where Black excellence is ingrained into the culture. Characters are tasked with conquering the challenge of college sports while navigating a prestigious university. Nathaniel, played by queer gender-non-conforming actor Rhoyle Ivy King, is non-binary in the show. Don’t miss All-American: Homecoming when it returns on January 23.
6.) Queer icon, romantic comedy legend, and television host extraordinaire Drew Barrymore’s show, The Drew Barrymore Show, was renewed through 2024 this week! With guests such as President Joe Biden, Kate Hudson, Susan Sarandon, and George Clooney, Barrymore’s show has been immensely successful, and we’re excited to see where Barrymore takes the show in the future!

7.) Queer actor Anthony Rapp will lead a new docuseries from Cineflix called Surviving Hollywood. The series will look into abuse and trauma in the entertainment industry, and take a deeper dive into why and how Hollywood’s toxic culture has and still persists to this day. Rapp, who has acted in Star Trek: Discovery and Rent, accused Kevin Spacey of unwanted sexual advances, and leads this series after Spacey was found not liable for battery in a civil case. The show will feature interviews, archival footage, and more.

8.) Queer supergroup boygenius returned in a big way this week, dropping three songs from their upcoming album, titled the record. The group is comprised of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker, all of whom are queer and have successful solo careers on top of performing together as boygenius. In other music news, Måneskin’s new album Rush is out this week, and Hyphen Hyphen’s new album C’est La Vie, is out now as well. There’s a bevy of new singles from queer artists this week, including Stefano May’s song for the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation called “Hope It Will Remind You,” Kaleena Zanders’ new single “V I B R A T I O N,” mazie’s new single “it’s not me (it’s u),” Party Nails and Boy Sim’s single “Like U,” and Commando’s heavy-metal rap single “EMEY (Izdis Hymn?).”
9.) Bob the Drag Queen, winner of season eight of RuPaul’s Drag Race, was announced as a special guest on Madonna’s upcoming world tour this week. Following the surprising cancellation of the Sibling Rivalry tour, Bob’s show with Drag Race All-Stars 4 winner Monet X Change, fans expected an exciting announcement, and they certainly got one. 10.) Queer-inclusive media took home a number of the top awards this week at the Critic’s Choice Awards, including Everything Everywhere All at Once taking home “Best Picture.” Better Call Saul took home the award for “Best Drama Series,” Abbott Elementary won “Best Comedy Series,” and Harley Quinn grabbed “Best Animated Series.” Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story, won “Best Comedy” and “Best Acting Ensemble,” and queer actress Niecy Nash-Betts took home the award for “Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.” Hopefully we continue to see queer projects and performers succeed this awards season!
