1) Paramount Pictures’ new Scream film releases today in theaters. The fifth Scream film will have returning characters from the first four film, as well as new residents of Woodsboro rounding out the cast. One of them includes out Yellowjackets star Jasmin Savoy Brown as queer characters Mindy Meeks-Martin, one of two twins in the central teen group of friends. Scream is now playing in theaters everywhere; buy tickets here and watch the trailer below.
2) Vertical Entertainment has acquired the rights to No Running, a sci-fi thriller featuring out actress Rutina Wesley. The film centers on Jaylen Brown, a Black high school student who finds himself under suspicion after his classmate disappears during a party, with prejudice quickly beginning to boil to the surface of his small southern town. While working against the clock to clear his name, Brown begins to unravel a massive web of secrets that all point to otherworldly forces at play.

3) Apple has announced a forthcoming Audrey Hepburn biopic, directed by out Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. The film will follow Hepburn from the time she was born in Ixelles, Brussels, and grew up in the Netherlands during World War II when the Germans occupied the country. Her first leading role was 1953’s Roman Holiday for which she notched an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for a single performance. In the decades to come, Hepburn accumulated five Oscar nominations and AMPAS’ Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1993.

4) Alex Hibney’s Jigsaw Productions has announced that the life and remarkable career of out WNBA star Sue Bird will be the subject of a new documentary entitled Sue Bird: In The Clutch. The film will document Bird’s record-setting 5th Olympic gold medal, the 2022 WNBA season, life with fiancé Megan Rapinoe, advocating for social justice, and her post-retirement plans. Interview subjects include lesbian stars Rapinoe and Diana Turasi, Bird’s teammates on the Seattle Storm, and NBA stars as well as celebrities and political leaders.

5) The Morning Show has been renewed for a Season 3 at Apple, with Charlotte Stoudt boarding the series as a showrunner. The drama series shows an inside look at the modern workplace through the lens of people who help America wake up, pulling back the curtain on early morning television. In the series, Laura Peterson (Julianna Margulies) portrays an out anchor at the morning show’s fictional network who was previously fired for being a lesbian and develops a romantic relationship with Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon). In other renewal news, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for a record-breaking season 19. The series has introduced a plethora of queer characters, most recently including non-binary lesbian Dr. Kai Bartley played by non-binary actor, producer, and writer E.R. Fightmaster.
6) Out actress, comedian, producer and writer Aubrey Plaza has been added to the cast of the second season of The White Lotus. The HBO social satire and dark comedy series was created by out producer, actor ,and writer Mike White. Season two will take place at an entirely new White Lotus resort and Plaza will portray Harper Spiller, a woman on vacation with her husband and his friends.

7) The newly launched BBC Three channel has announced the premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Versus The World on February 1, 2022. With Michelle Visage and out actors and comedians Graham Norton and Alan Carr as judges, the show will see nine international alumni compete to win the title of “Drag Race Superstar” in host nation the U.K. Confirmed special guests include Our Girl star Michelle Keegan, out Bridgerton heartthrob Jonathan Bailey and Celebrity Big Brother winner Katie Price.
8) Out performer, writer, producer, and fashion model Joshy Soul has released a new single entitled “New Lover”, off his upcoming EP set for release in March, 2022. In other music news, the musical duo Jack Rabbit, made up of queer artist Mo and co-creator Andy, have released a new single entitled “After You”. The song is a nostalgic reckoning with what happens after heartbreak— years, cities, and lovers later. Stream here and watch the “After You” music video below!
9) Out writer, professor, editor, and social commentator Roxane Gay has announced the launch of her upcoming podcast The Roxane Gay Agenda. The series, which premieres on January 25 in partnership with iHeartMedia, will feature conversations with Gay, who also offers uncommonly incisive reads of the politics that shape the world and popular culture. Episodes will be released weekly with listeners able to tune in early and ad-free on the Luminary app or its Apple podcast subscription service The Luminary Channel, before being released wide via the iHeart Podcast Network.

10) The winners of the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced. Out actress and singer Michaela Jaé Rodriguez has made history as the first transgender actress to win a Golden Globe, taking home the “Best Actress in a TV series” award for her performance in Pose Additionally, queer actress, singer, and dancer Ariana DeBose has won the “Best actress in a supporting role in any motion picture” for her performance in West Side Story. Winning titles also include, The Power of the Dog (Best Motion Picture, Drama), West Side Story (Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy), and Hacks (Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy).

11) In other Award Show news, the nominees for the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) and the 2022 Writers Guild Awards (WAG) have been announced. Among the SAG nominees, out singer-songwriter and actress Lady Gaga has been nominated for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role” for her starring role in House of Gucci. In the “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor ina Supporting Role” category, queer actress, singer, and dancer Ariana DeBose has been nominated for her West Side Story performance. Out actor Murray Bartlett’s role in The White Lotus has been nominated for “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series”. Lastly, out comedian Hannah Einbinder was among those nominated for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series” for her role in Hacks. The WAG TV nominees include The Morning Show (Drama Series), Yellowjackets (Drama Series and New Series), Hacks (Comedy Series and New Series), What We Do in the Shadows (Comedy Series), Loki (Drama Series and New Series), Reservation Dogs (New Series), The White Lotus (Original Long Form), and WandaVision (Adapted Long Form).
