The GLAAD Wrap: ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ in theaters today, new release dates for ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Other Two’, music by 100 Gecs, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1.) Shazam! Fury of the Gods hits theaters today! Based on the DC Comics character Shazam, Billy Batson (Zachary Levi) and his foster siblings transform into their superhero alter egos by saying “Shazam!” and are sprung into action to fight the Daughters of Atlas. Bisexual actor Jack Dylan Grazer plays Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Billy’s brother who is a huge fan of superheroes. Check out the trailer below and watch Shazam! 2.) Universal has moved the release date of Wicked Part 1 to November 27, 2024 from its original date of December 25. Based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, the untold story of the Witches of Oz stars queer Grammy-winner Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, alongside an all-star ensemble that includes out actors Jonathan Bailey and Bowen Yang and recent Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh!

3.) Magnolia Pictures has released the first trailer for their acclaimed documentary Little Richard: I Am Everything, which is set for special one-night-only theatrical screenings April 11! The pic centers on musical icon Richard Penniman, telling the story of the Black queer origins of rock ‘n’ roll. Interviews with Billy Porter, John Waters, Mick Jagger, Tom Jones and more bring us into Richard’s complicated inner world, filling the void that previously did not recognize his contributions. Catch Little Richard in additional theaters and on digital April 21!

4.) Bisexual Emmy-winning actor Kit Connor has been set to lead the upcoming mystery-horror One Of UsThe allegorical film follows members of a family who begin dying one by one at a funeral, while Younger (Connor) searches for the stranger in their midst. One Of Us begins filming in Belfast, Northern Ireland later this month; stay tuned for further information!

5.) HBO Max’s The Other Two has been set to return for its third season on May 4. The GLAAD Media Award-nominated comedy series is co-created by gay executive producer Chris Kelly and stars bisexual actor Drew Tarver, portraying the gay aspiring actor Cary Dubek. Three years in the future, the Dubeks experience new but familiar humiliations and Chase Dreams turns 18, making the leap from child to adult star. 6.) Hulu has unveiled the first footage of Meryl Streep in the new season of Only Murders in the Building, featuring bisexual lead Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez). Though character details about Steep’s character remain under wraps, it appears that she is reading for a part for Oliver’s new project. Check out the season three teaser below!

7.) The GLAAD Media Award-nominated series A League of Their Own has been renewed, giving the beloved Rockford Peaches a four-episode final season. The series, co-created by out producers Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson, builds on the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nods to sexuality and racism from the 1992 feature film. The brand-new WWII All-American professional women’s baseball league fights to keep their team alive through close games, injuries, sexual awakenings and road trips across a rapidly changing United States. Keep your eyes peeled for release date information!

8.) Bisexual actor François Arnaud and Reid Scott have been set as the male leads in ABC’s drama pilot Judgment. The high-stakes legal soap follows two timelines. Fifteen years in the future, Mia (Sarah Shahi) is being vetted for a Supreme Court seat while in the throes of a messy love triangle between two feuding brothers. Now, all her darkest secrets are at risk of coming out, threatening her nomination, her reputation, and her marriage. Arnaud plays Leo, the righteous Deputy Solicitor General who finds himself deeply attracted to his brother’s girlfriend. 

9.) 100 Gecs, consisting of trans artist Laura Les and Dylan Brady, have released their long-awaited second album 10,000 Gecs today! 10.) The revival of out composer Stephen Sondheim’s musical Merrily We Roll Along is coming to Broadway at the Hudson Theatre on September 19. Starring gay actor and singer Jonathan Groff, alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez, the musical explores the turbulent relationship between composer Franklin Shepard and his two lifelong friends — writer Mary and lyricist and playwright Charley.
