Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1.) Disney’s weird and wonderful Strange World is out on Disney+ this week! The animated feature details the adventures of a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous, and often hostile world. Out actor and comedian Jaboukie Young-White plays gay 16-year-old Ethan, who longs for adventure and has a crush on his friend Diazo (Jonathan Melo). This is one streaming release you aren’t going to want to miss, so check out Strange World on Disney+ now. It’s fun for the whole family!

2.) Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story finds its streaming home on Netflix this week! The Knives Out sequel presents a new mystery for detective Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to solve, this time a murder mystery party gone awry. The film features queer non-binary performer Janelle Monae as Cassandra Brand, a tech entrepreneur and ex-assistant to the host of the party. Don’t miss Glass Onion on Netflix, because much like an ogre, this film has layers.

3.) Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody releases in theaters today, and it’s going to be So Emotional. The story tracks the incredible and tragic life and career of the “I Have Nothing” singer, including at least some parts of her relationship with Robyn Crawford, as well as her work with bisexual record producer Clive Davis. Go discover The Greatest Love of All this week and see Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody. We Will Always Love You if you do!

4.) Netflix’s upcoming movie based on the hit show Luther has announced a title and a release window. The film will be called Luther: The Fallen Sun, and will be released in March of 2023. The story follows John Luther as he breaks out of prison to catch a serial killer terrorizing London, and co-stars queer performer Cynthia Erivo. In other news, bisexual actress Megan Fox is set to co-star in Subservience, an upcoming sci-fi thriller,

5.) The third movie in the Hurricane Bianca series, titled The Roots of All Evil, was announced this week, along with its all-star cast of drag queens and other queer icons. The film series stars Drag Race season six winner Bianca Del Rio as both Richard Martinez and her drag persona. In The Roots of All Evil, Martinez/Del Rio will return home to Florida for his grandmother’s funeral, which will in turn reignite a feud with his mother, the owner of a homophobic fast food restaurant. The film will also include Drag Race queens Willam Belli and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.

6.) The trailer for Netflix’s upcoming That 70s Show reboot, That 90s Show, came out this week. The show follows a new group of teens, including Eric’s kid Leia Forman, and Jackie and Kelso’s kid Jay, as they create chaos in Kitty and Red’s basement and beyond. It also goes one step further than the original show, introducing Ozzie, played by Reyn Doi, a gay member of the squad. Don’t miss That 90s Show when it premieres on January 19, and watch the trailer below now! In other TV news,  queer musician Fletcher was announced in the lineup of Miley’s New Years Party. 

7.) The first look of the fourth season of True Detective, which will air on HBO in 2023, was released this week. The season, titled Night Country, stars queer actress Jodie Foster, and Two-Spirit boxer turned actor Kali Reis. Other queer and Two-Spirit featured actors include Fiona Shaw and Anna Lambe. Alongside True Detective, there were looks at existing HBO shows with queer characters like Barry, as well as HBO shows that are expected to have featured queer characters, like The Last of Us adaptation.

8.) Mindy Kaling’s new show Velma will premiere January 12 on HBO Max. The show tells the origin story of our favorite optically-challenged sleuth, with Kaling providing the voice of Velma. The show will feature queer actors Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Fortune Feimster, and Cherry Jones, all in unknown roles. In other television news, the sixth and final season of FX’s Snowfall will premiere on February 22. The show features Angela Lewis as Aunt Louie, a bisexual nightclub owner and a part of the central drug empire in the show.

9.) The dolls of season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race will strut into the Werk Room soon, and with them comes a slate of incredible guest judges. First of all, trans icon and television personality TS Madison has been upped to a rotating judge alongside long-standing judges Carson Kressley and Ross Matthews. The slate of queer guest judges/icons this season include Amandla Stenberg, Harvey Guillén, Hayley Kiyoko, Janelle Monáe, Megan Stalter, and Orville Peck. Plus, Bianca Del Rio will be hosting this season of the Pit Stop on YouTube. Don’t miss the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race January 6 on MTV!

10.) It was announced on Tuesday that queer non-binary actor and musician Janelle Monae will receive this years Critics Choice Association’s SeeHer Award! The award, which is currently in its seventh year, honors a woman who advocates for gender equality, portrays characters with authenticity, defies stereotypes and pushes boundaries.
