1) The long-anticipated West Side Story film from Steven Spielberg and out writer Tony Kushner hits theaters today. This classic musical follows the tragic love story of Tony and Maria in 1950s New York. The cast includes out actor Arian DeBose as Anita and non-binary actor Iris Menas, playing the role of Jets member Anybodys. Get tickets here and watch the trailer below!
2) The comedy-drama The Sex Lives Of College Girls has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max. The series follows the lives and affairs of four college roommates, including legacy student Leighton (queer actress Reneé Rapp), attending New England’s prestigious Essex College. 3) Netflix has released a teaser for Queer Eye Germany, the first international spin-off from its reality series following a group of makeover experts— the ‘Fab 5’— who team up ot turn the life around of a nominated individual. The German ‘Fab 5’ is made up of out work and life coach Leni Bolt, fashion virtuoso Jan-Hernrik Scheper-Stuke, beauty guru David Jakobs, nutrition and health expert Aljosha Muttardi and design ace Ayam Yuruk. 4) The Boulet Brothers’ hit drag competition Dragula has been renewed by Shudder for a fifth season. Hosted, written, and produced by the Boulet Brothers, Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet, the show has featured drag artists from around the world competing in challenges ranging from costume creation to live performance with the winner taking home a $100,000 grand prize! World of Wonder has announced the renewal of Painted with Raven for a second season. Hosted by Raven, an Emmy Award-winning makeup artist and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum, the series features makeup artists from across the country competing in virtual challenges from the comfort of their homes. The first three episodes of Season 1 are available now on World of Wonder Presents Plus, with new episodes airing weekly on Thursdays until the finale on January 13.

5) HBO Max has announced the development of Bunny & Clyde, a narrative scripted half-hour comedy from out Search Party stars Jeffery Self and Cole Escola. In Bunny & Clyde, two lost and codependent souls— Clyde (Self), a gay thirtysomething in the midst of an unmedicated bipolar episode, and Bunny (Escola), a non-binary, self-identifying cabaret star— get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reinvent themselves and a second chance at happiness.
6) VH1 has announced the return of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 with a two-part premiere on Friday, January 7 at 8p.m. EST. The after-show RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked will premiere immediately following at 9:30p.m. EST. The cast of Season 14 includes stars Alyssa Hunter (Puerto Rico), Angeria Paris VanMicheals (Atlanta), Bosco (Seattle), Daya Bette (Missouri), Deja Skye (Fresno), Jasmine Kennedie (New York), Jorgeous (Nashville), June Jambalaya (Los Angeles), Kerri Colby (Los Angeles), Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté (Los Angeles), Lady Camden (San Francisco), Maddy Morphosis (Arkansas), Orion Story (Michigan), and Willow Pill (Denver).

7) Emmy Award-winning director and cinematographer Andrij Parekh has been set to direct the LGBTQ dramedy series Red Rainbow. Based on a true story, Red Rainbow is set in 1977 and follows a high-ranking Soviet politician who travels to West Berlin to address a socialist rally. Bureaucratic blunders and cultural misunderstandings are wrapped around a heart-wrenching love story exploring themes of identity, personal courage, and tolerance.

8) Disney+ has announced that nonbinary actor and singer Amandla Stenberg will take on the lead role in their upcoming series The Acolyte. In the real universe of Star Wars, an acolyte can refer to an individual with force abilities who learns from a more experienced Sith Lord. The mystery-thriller will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.

9) Out singer-songwriter and choreographer Todrick Hall has released the music video to his single “Boys In The Ocean”. Also, his latest album Femuline has been reimagined and re-released as Femuline Reloaded, featuring six additional tracks. Watch the music video below! 10) The Critics Choice Association has shared their television nominations for the 27th annual Critics Choice Awards. Among the nominated are out actors Billy Porter (Best Actor in a Drama Series for Pose), MJ Rodriguez (Best Actress in a Drama Series for Pose), Harvey Guillén (Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for What We Do in the Shadows), Josie Totah (Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series fo Saved By the Bell), Hannah Einbinder (Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks), and Murray Bartlett (Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for The White Lotus). Nominated television shows that include queer characters include Pose, This is Us, Yellow Jackets, Hacks, Reservation Dogs, What We Do in The Shadows, The Other Two, Dopesick, Mare of Easttown, Big Mouth, Saved by the Bell, Sex Education and Trixie Mattel: One Night Only. Additionally, Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas has been nominated for Best Movie Made for Television. The winners will be revealed at the Critics Choice Award gala, which will broadcast live on The CW and TBS Sunday, January 9 from 7:00-10:00pm ET.
