1) Out actor and musician Jai Rodriguez has been cast in Universal Picture’s groundbreaking LGBTQ rom-com Bros, scheduled for theatrical release September 30. The film follows two men, played by out actors Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane, as they attempt a monogamous relationship, despite both of their commitment issues. In more film casting news, out actress, model, and singer Bella Thorne has been set to star in the upcoming thriller Saint Clare, co-scripted by out American Psycho writer Guinevere Turner. Based on the novel Clare At 16, the story follows Thorne as Clare Bleecker, a quiet catholic college student with a strong appetite for murder. Additionally, gay Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey has been cast to star in the comedy Maria. The film will follow Maria, who falls for her new stepbrother while her father is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Bailey will play Maria’s loving boyfriend Eddy.

2) Dark Star Pictures has announced the upcoming Chilean LGBTQ comedy Phantom Project. Set for a September 2022 theatrical release, the film follows Pablo, a gay aspiring actor who has to work as a simulated patient in medical schools and in alternative therapy sessions to make ends meet.

3) Netflix has released first-look photos of their queer female-led vampire series First Kill, out on the streamer June 10. Based on a YA fantasty short story, the TV adaptation follows teenage vampire Juliette, who aims to make the new girl Calliope her first kill. Juliette’s plan goes awry when she finds out Calliope is from a family of vampire slayers and the two begin to develop feelings.

4) The first trailer for the Netflix series Uncoupled has been released, from gay writers and producers Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman. The eight-part series stars out actor Neil Patrick Harris as Michael, whose husband of seventeen years unexpectedly walks out on him. Watch Uncoupled on July 29 and check out the trailer below! In other Netflix comedy news, out Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman has announced her new Netflix dark comedy No Good Deed. The show will center three very different families all competing to buy the same Spanish style villa. Feldman’s inspiration for No Good Deed stemmed from many late nights during the pandemic desperately searching for house listings on Zillow.
5) A24 has set out eight-time Grammy nominee Janelle Monaé to star in the TV series De La Resistance as the iconic bisexual entertainer and civil rights activist Josephine Baker. The drama will center Baker’s role as a spy for the Allies during the French resistance to beat the Nazis, as well as her legacy as the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture.

6) Netflix has announced the release of out actor and comedian Joel Kim Booster’s stand-up special, Joel Kim Booster: Psychosexual, out on the streamer June 21. The three-set act will explore human sexuality and the cultural nuances of being Asian. In other TV news, out Vito Russo Award-winning actor Alan Cumming has been set to host Peacock’s upcoming reality series The Traitors. The ten-episode series is set in a remote castle in the Scottish Highlands, where players compete in a game of alliances and deception for a chance to win $250,000.
7) Queen Latifah has announced the renewal of CBS hit drama The Equalizer for seasons three and four. The crime show features queer character Aunt “Vi” Marsette. In more TV news, Freeform has announced return dates for several of their LGBTQ-inclusive programs, including the third and final season of Motherland: Fort Salem, which will premiere June 21, the revamped fifth season of grown-ish, which will return July 20, and the second half of the fourth season of Good Trouble, which will resume on July 7.

8) Out actress Ariana DeBose, who recently became the first out queer woman of color to win an acting Oscar for her role as Anita in West Side Story, has been set to host the 2022 Tony Awards live from New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Tune in Sunday, June 12, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS or stream it on demand on Paramount+. A pre-awards special will begin at 7 p.m. ET only on Paramount+.
9) Out star Lady Gaga has released the power ballad “Hold My Hand”, written and produced with BloodPop for the film Top Gun: Maverick. Queer electro pop artist Riotron has also released his latest single “Life Is What We’re Living” and accompanying music video, featuring out star Tyler Posey and Lea Thompson. Just in time for Mother’s Day, the video portrays a haunting depiction of the grief a son meets upon the loss of his mother; watch it here! 10) This week, the MSP Film Society has begun their 41st Annual Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival, running through May 19. Returning live and in-person at the newly refurbished MSP Film at the Main theater, there will be an array of exciting parties, panels, and filmmaker networking events and discussions. MSPIFF41 will present more than 200 films from around the world, including numerous LGBTQ-themed Latine films, such as Camilla Comes Out Tonight, Dos Estaciones, The First Death of Joana and Mars One.
