The field of artificial intelligence is decades old, but several of the breakthroughs that gave rise to today’s generative AI tools have only come in the past decade. In 2015, researchers devised the diffusion model, for instance, and two years later a team at Google published an influential paper outlining the transformer model.
These advances have resulted in products like the image generators, many of which are based on diffusion, and language tools such as ChatGPT that fashion businesses are now putting to use.
