Outfest, Pride Film Festival and the new Problemista trailer!

This week, GLAAD’s Spanish-Language and Latine Media team has exciting updates on summer LGBTQ film festivals across the country!

To kick us off is the release of the first trailer for Problemista. Written and directed by Julio Torres, the surreal story follows Alejandro (an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador played by Torres) as time runs out on his work visa. Alejandro takes on a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country. The trailer features Torres’s co-star Tilda Swinton, as well as an appearance from Spike Einbinder who you may remember from their incredible portrayal of “Sombra del Agua” on Los Espookys.

As we wrote about last week, Problemista will screen at NewFest Pride in New York on June 2nd and at LALIFF in Los Angeles on June 4th. Speaking of film festivals, we’ve got two recently-announced film and television festival events to share below.

THE OUTFRONTS

Outfest’s four day LGBTQ+ television festival kicks off Pride Week with panels and conversations, featuring the people behind some of this year’s hottest queer television shows like With Love, Our Flag Means Death, Somebody Somewhere and The Other Two.

Check out the full panel lineup here. The Outfront panels will screen from June 2nd – June 5th, with Outfest occuring July 13th – July 23rd.

PRIDE FILM FEST CHICAGO

Horseplay

The Pride Film Fest will celebrate the month of June with three programs of short LGBT films from around the world and an in-person screening of the Argentine film Horseplay (Los agitadores), directed by Marco Berger, at Chicago’s Facets on June 22nd.

The first program, entitled BEST OF THE FEST 1, is a compilation of films that will include Flores del otro patio, directed by Jorge Cadena, a political short from Colombia where a group of queer activists use extravagant performative actions to fight against the various social injustices that plague the region.

Flores del otro patio

BEST OF THE FEST 1 will stream from June 14-25 and Horseplay will screen in person at Chicago’s Facets on June 22nd. Find out more at pridefilm.org.
