Symone Sanders, VP Kamala Harris’ Top Aide, Exiting White House

Symone Sanders, one of Vice President Kamala Harris’ top aides, is leaving the Biden administration at the end of the month, sources told NBC News.

“Symone has served honorably for three years,” a source told CNN. “The President and vice president are grateful for Symone’s service and advocacy for this White House. She is a valued member, a team player, and she will be missed. We are grateful to have her working through the end of the year.”

Sanders, 31, served as the vice president’s chief spokesperson and senior adviser.

Sanders’ exit is the second high-profile departure from the vice president’s office in recent weeks. Harris’ communication director, Ashley Etienne, announced in November she’d be leaving the Biden administration in December.

CNN obtained a letter from Sanders, seemingly confirming her departure.

“I’m so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been,” the letter stated. “I’m grateful for Tina and her leadership and her confidence as well. Every day, I arrived to the White House complex knowing our work made a tangible difference for Americans. I am immensely grateful and will miss working for her and with all of you.”

Sanders and Etienne’s exits come amid reports of turmoil in the VP Harris’ office. West Wing aides reportedly feel Harris’ office is rife with dysfunction, infighting and lack of focus, per a detailed CNN report.

Sanders’ work in the White House followed her time spent on President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign where she was a senior adviser, per reports. During the 2015-16 Democratic primary, Sanders worked on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign.

Another source told CNN that Harris had known for a while that Sanders would leave her position.
